A Painting from a Stranger
A film I made about my grandmother and her ancestral home unexpectedly reached over 1.5 million people online.
Months later, I discovered that an artist from another part of the world had come across the video, captured a frame of the house, and turned it into a beautiful painting.
This film tells the story of that full-circle moment. I intercut the artist’s process with archival photographs of my family and the ancestral home, using match cuts to blur the line between memory and art.
